Born in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, and raised in Bixby, Joshua D. Cooper is a proud Oklahoman whose deep roots in the state shape both his personal values and his approach to the practice of law. A 2007 graduate of Bixby High School, Joshua went on to earn his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with a minor in Economics from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, followed by his Juris Doctor from Oklahoma City University School of Law.
Joshua brings a focused and compassionate approach to family and criminal law matters at Murray Law Firm. With extensive experience in State/Tribal court and Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA) matters, Joshua is uniquely equipped to serve Native families and individuals throughout Oklahoma.
Before entering private practice, Joshua gained invaluable courtroom and client-service experience as a law clerk and Licensed Legal Intern with firms and organizations across the state, including Oklahoma Indian Legal Services, the Oklahoma County Public Defender’s Juvenile Division (where he completed over 350 pro bono hours), and several civil litigation and personal injury practices. Before his law career, he served as an Indian Child Welfare Specialist and expert witness for the Cherokee Nation, representing the tribe in state courts across multiple jurisdictions.
Clients consistently describe Joshua as an attorney who truly listens. Whether guiding a family through a difficult custody battle, fighting for a fair outcome in a criminal case, or helping build a new family through adoption, Joshua is committed to understanding each client’s unique story and advocating fiercely for their best interests.
Outside the courtroom, Joshua remains actively involved in the community. A former president of OSU Men’s Rugby and longtime rugby enthusiast, he currently volunteers as an assistant head coach for the Oklahoma State University Men’s Rugby Club. An Eagle Scout and enrolled citizen of the Cherokee Nation, Joshua is also a recognized Cherokee basket weaver and instructor who values passing down cultural traditions.
